Appearance: The most notable part of Russel's appearance is his hair. It's shiny and blond, but also hangs in front of half his face. There's no scars being hidden or anything of that sort, he just likes it that way. Call it a part of his charm. He's usually seen wearing a white button up shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, black pants with black suspenders.

Personality: In a word, he is arrogant. He does place himself above most other people, with a few very exclusive exceptions. It's Russel's world, we just live in it. He puts on a very calm, collected and in control mask, until things go really wrong. His morals are rather loose as well, and he has few qualms when it comes to lying, manipulating, and cheating to get what he wants. But he puts himself above stealing, except in appropriate emergencies. He has been forced to play the adult for Fletcher, and while he is generally responsible, he is much more jaded and sarcastic than is normal, and he enjoys mocking others. He is, however, capable of gentleness. The recipients of this gentleness are extremely limited, though. Primarily, it's Fletcher. But anyone else he comes to care for and worry about would recieve that same gentleness, but that would be a long time coming. He does not mean people harm, unless he or Fletcher recieve harm first. Overall, he pretends to be unfazed by most things he encounters, though he is still a scared, lonely 15-year-old deep inside.

Abilities: He is a very capable hand-to-hand fighter, but not exceeding normal human capabilities. He has speed and strength, and enjoys taunting his adversary by dodging their initial blows, and only throwing a punch of his own if the right verbal slap to the face is given, or if his opponent actually connects. He has no trouble creating an unfair advantage for himself, and will do what he has to to win. He also is an alchemist, though he must rely on circles to do his work. He is almost on Ed's level in this regard, though he specializes in botanical and other forms of plant-based alchemy. However, his alchemy will not work so easily in Manhattan. Without shedding his blood as a resident of the world beyond the Gate, it simply will not work as he is used to.

Weaknesses: His pride is his biggest weakness. He won't admit to defeat or weakness, and that usually puts him in worse trouble. He'll only admit to it to someone he's close to, a thing he doesn't allow to happen very often. He separates himself from people, which is probably a leftover feeling from when Ed saved him from himself. It's probably due to a mix of not feeling worthy of making more friends, and protecting others from his own pride. For all his outward arrogance, it's all a mask. This mask is a well-honed tool, and in his efforts to be taken seriously despite his age, he keeps it firmly in place when he sees it will benefit him. However, this mask also keeps him from properly identifying other people's feelings as well. This blindness makes him think that he can continue down a given path, either oblivious to or unwilling to acknowledge the pain it is causing others. It takes a clue bat the size of a compact car to break him out of the blindness and open his eyes to what he's caused. But, once this happens, it's added to the list of things he guilts himself for. He tries to carry this guilt as well as he can, and it is rarely crippling, but when something new comes along, it can be a heavy blow for him.

Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider

History: Not much is known about Russel from before we meet him. But one day, Nash, his father, left him and Fletcher. Ever since then, the brothers searched for him out of love and admiration. He didn't hate him like Ed did his father, he wanted to follow in his dad's footsteps, and still tried to keep the promise of staying away from alchemy.

Eventually, their search brought him and Fletcher to Xenotime, their father's hometown, and the last known place he'd been studying. There, they posed as the Elric brothers, a method they saw as the best way to get their foot in the door and find out where their father had gone after that. They worked for a land baron, Mugear. He owned the gold mines that the people of Xenotime worked tirelessly to revive. They paid him and the Tringham brothers whatever they could scrape together to pay for the research.

But unbeknownst to the brothers, their father was already dead. Mugear had killed him when he refused to use the placentas of pregnant women to nuture his red stones into a true Philosopher's Stone. The brothers picked up their father's research, but hit the same wall their father did. What they had created was powerful, but paled when compared to the fabled power of the true Stone.

Then Ed came into town. He uncovered Russel's lies, revealed the truth of what happened to Nash, and left Mugear to be crushed under his own collapsing mansion. Russel and Fletcher resolve to use their skills as alchemists to revive the dustbowl of a town that is Xenotime through their botanical and agricultural alchemy.

A year later, the Tringhams come to Central to find Ed. They found some further information in their father's journal about the Stone and its connection to the military, and they wanted to share it. However, old habits die hard for Russel, and when he was unable to resist the call of alchemy books his pocketbook wouldn't permit the purchase of, he used Ed's name. What he didn't know at the time, was that Ed was considered a criminal. The store owner called the military police, and the brothers were tossed in jail, with orders to be executed immediately. Two soldiers came along and defied those orders, and the four of them braved gunfire to bring the brothers to Ed.

Message delivered, they agree to rendezvous at a church described in the journal, and there they have their final goodbyes before Ed disappears to Germany.

Sometime not long after that point, Russel goes to bed after a long day's work in Belshio's field. Then he wakes up in Manhattan.
